The Isle of Wight Festival 2011 looks set tbe another amazing Festival. Legendary Isle of Wight Festival Returns With a Bang The world-famous Isle of Wight Festival is returning in 2011 for another three-day outdoor music extravaganza. Headlining the festival this year are the American alternative rock band Kings of Leon, the legendary Britpop band Pulp, the American rock band Foo Fighters, and the British alternative rock band Kasabian. The event will take place from 10-12 June 2011, with Kings of Leon playing on Friday, Foo Fighters and the newly reformed Pulp each headlining on Saturday, and Kasabian rounding out Sunday. The British Pink Floyd Show is also a confirmed Isle of Wight performer. The Isle of Wight producers have promised a monumental festival suitable for the event’s tenth birthday.
The legendary festival originated in 1968, just eleven days after the famed American festival, Woodstock. The 1970 Isle of Wight Festival was one of the largest outdoor gatherings of all time and an estimated 600,000 people were in attendance. The 1970 festival was the last Isle of Wight festival until the event was relaunched in 2002. It has continued every year ever since. The event won “Best Major Festival” at the 2007 UK Festival Awards. John Giddings, the man in charge of the Isle of Wight Festival, also won the Outstanding Contribution award at the same ceremony. In the past, the festival has hosted rock legends like The Strokes, Blondie, Neil Young, Snow Patrol, The Police, and The Sex Pistols.
