Everyone’s favourite Ogre is getting his own West End musical next year! Shrek The Musical will open at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane in May 2011.
Starring Nigel Lindsay as Shrek, Richard Blackwood as Donkey, Amanda Holden as Princess Fiona and Nigel Harman as the evil Lord Farquaard, this new stage musical is based on the story and characters from the hugely popular DreamWorks Animation film Shrek
Shrek and his loyal steed Donkey set off on an adventure to rescue Princess Fiona, from her tower, guarded by a fire breathing love-sick dragon. Add a wannabe King with a height complex, a bunch of fairytale superstars, and a biscuit with an attitude and you’ve got next year’s must see new musical comedy!
Featuring all new songs as well as cult Shrek anthem ‘I’m a Believer’, Shrek The Musical brings the well loved characters to life in a hilarious new production which turns the world of fairytales upside down in an all singing, all dancing, irresistible mix of magic, laughter and romance.
Shrek The Musical tickets go on sale this Friday 1st October 2010 for the show’s West End run at Theatre Royal Drury Lane. Preview performances begin on May 6th 2011 with the eagerly awaited opening night coming on June 14th 2011.
The show will star Nigel Lindsay as Shrek, Amanda Holden as Princess Fiona, Richard Blackwood as Donkey and Eastenders star Nigel Harman as Lord Farquaad – and like the film it is based on will be a delight for both adults and children, with both comedy gold and brilliant music throughout.
